Obituary

William J. "Bill" Neuroth was born April 1, 1937 to William and Anna (Pohlen) Neuroth on the family farm south of Beresford. He died June 1, 2013 in Beresford at the age of 76 years and 61 days. The family moved into Beresford in 1938 and he attended Beresford schools; graduating from high school in 1955. Bill attended eight years of college at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. During his college summer vacations, he enjoyed sharing many trips with his mother, Anna and his brother, Tony. Their favorite was to the Seattle World's Fair. Another highlight was a visit to the Harry Truman History Museum. President Truman happened to be there at the time, and they have a picture with him which they treasure. He served as a priest in several parishes in eastern South Dakota. He became a cat lover when someone gave him a pair of brother and sister kittens. He took such good care of them that they lived far beyond a normal cat life span. These were replaced in time by two others who needed special care and now by his constant companion, Mitsy that he rescued as a "runt of the litter" kitten one cold winter several years ago. Bill inherited a love of playing cards from his parents and spent many afternoons with his mother and brothers playing Rummy. He was an avid baseball fan, cheering for his favorite teams, the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins, despite any poor seasons they may have had. Bill's love for books is apparent in the many bookcases that line the walls of his rooms and there was always one by his chair. He started working for Chuck and Cindy Carlson when they built their new store, which is now Fiesta, and continued working there until the last Friday of his life. He was a dedicated employee and was willing to fill in at a moment's notice when needed. Bill will be greatly missed. He is survived by two brothers, Leo (Lorraine) Neuroth and Anthony (Marion) Neuroth both of Beresford; sister-in-law, Carol Neuroth of Centerville and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Anna Neuroth; three brothers, Gilbert, Robert & Leonard; and two sisters, Rosemary Haywood and Doreen Marie Heglin. As a final generous gift, Bill has donated his body to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. Rosary and memorial services will be at 7PM Wednesday, June 5th at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford.
