William N. Johnson was born March 13, 1917 near Beresford, SD to parents William and Caroline (Berg) Johnson. He died May 7, 2011 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 94 years, 1 month and 24 days. William attended rural school and graduated from Centerville High School. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and was stationed in the Pacific during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, William returned home and farmed with his brother John and other area farmers. After retiring he moved into Beresford and has resided here until the present time. William was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and later became a member of the Gospel Tabernacle where he served as the church treasurer for many years. His faith in God, prayer time and reading the Bible were very important to him. William was well read and kept up to date on current events. He will be remembered for being a kind and thoughtful man. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Thrina Yttreness and brother John Johnson. His survivors include 6 nieces: Carol Gustafson, Sioux Falls, Caryll Olenicak, Owatonna, MN, Cheryl (Dale) Marsolek, Claremont, MN, Sheila (Dan) Cole, Minneapolis, MN, Lois (Jim) Dravland, Sioux Falls, and Helen (Gene) Schoffelman, Davis.
