William (Bill) R. Muller, 84 of Beresford, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012. Bill was born, Feb. 13, 1928 in Parker SD to Henry J. P. and Lillie Belle (Rogers) Muller. Henry moved the family to a farm in the Hudson area. Bill enlisted in the Navy at the young age of 15-thanks to Uncle Amos! He spent 4 years touring the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans serving in WWII. In late 1950 while in the Navel Reserve, he was called back to active duty due to the Korean War. He spent the next 18 months serving. When home from duty he met and married the love of his life, Veronica Fitzgerald. They were married on May 13, 1952. Bill worked road construction for several years and then he and Veronica settled in Beresford where they spent their entire life. Bill operated the garbage route for 10 years and in 1969 they purchased the Standard Station. In 1971 they built a new Standard Station on Hwy 46 & I-29. In 1977 they purchased the old Mobile Station on South 3rd St at which time they partnered with son Larry and combined the auto parts store and moved to Main Street. Bill and Veronica remained active in the business until 1989 when they retired and Larry and Deb Muller continued to operate the business. Bill was a member of Saint Theresa Catholic Church and was also active in the community along with being Mayor of Beresford from 1980-1990. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 2975 and American Legion Post 72. He was a dedicated public servant throughout his lifetime. Those who survive and gracefully shared his life are his wife of 60 years Veronica, children Jean & Richard Geraets of Sioux Falls SD, Larry & Deb Muller of Beresford, Donna & Rick Mertz of Lincoln NE, Randy Muller of Lewisville TX and Laura & Ron Fergeson of Grapevine TX.. Grandchildren: Brad Muller, Jill Danahay, Luke Muller, Kristin Turner, Kelli Bertsch, Samantha Mertz, William Mertz, Nicholas Muller, Jesse Fergeson and Brianna Fergeson. Great-grandchildren: Ally Muller, Jaden Muller, Maiya Muller, Austin Danahay, Maddie Danahay, Kahne Muller, Jaxson Turner. A brother Albert, Alcester SD and sisters Dorothy Earl, Eldorada Hills, CA and Charlotte Smith, Reno NV. Preceding in death by his parents and one brother Donald. Blesses be his memory! A funeral mass will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, September 7, 2012 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford, with burial to follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Thursday from 6PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
