William "Bill" Stewart Joseph entered into rest after a brief illness on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the age of 88 years. Private family graveside services will be held in Akron, IA.
William Stewart Joseph was born on August 22, 1932 in rural Plymouth County, IA to Stuart and Helen (Pike) Joseph. He resided with his parents and sister (Wilma Niven) in Plymouth County until graduating from Westfield High School in 1950. After graduation, his family moved to Union County, SD and Bill enlisted in the United States Army. After basic training, he was stationed at Fort Carson, CO where he served stateside during the Korean war. After his honorable discharge, he returned to South Dakota and farmed the family farm.
In July 1968, he married Kathleen (Kathy) Olsen-Banks in Westfield, IA. The couple lived and farmed with their 3 daughters in Union County until moving into Alcester in 1984 where he worked for Great Plains Lumber Co. and then Alkota Cleaning Systems. He retired in 1997.
Bill enjoyed fishing, mowing yards, playing cards, bowling, and doing word puzzles. He was an avid reader and loved spending time with family and friends.
Bill is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Johnette (Joe) Michaels of Danville, PA; Cassandra (Kevin Rohlfs) Joseph of South Sioux CIty, NE; Cherilyn (Jay) Hallaway of Alcester, SD; 5 grandchildren, James and Brian Lenik and Jaclyn, Elizabeth and William Hallaway; 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister.
