William L. Johnson was born January 12, 1925 near Beresford, SD to parents Louis and Ethel (Noble) Johnson. He died December 20, 2016 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 8 days.

Bill attended Beresford High School. He entered the United States Army in February of 1945 and served in the Pacific during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge in December of 1946 Bill returned home and began farming. He married Charlene Carlson in 1957. The couple made their home on a farm north of Beresford. Bill retired from farming in his early 80's and moved into Beresford in 2014 and has continued to reside here until the current time.

Bill was a devoted member of Komstad Covenant Church where he had been active in many leadership and service roles. Farming was a special part of Bill's life. He loved living on and taking care of his land and keeping his farm place well maintained.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Nancy, 5 brothers, Allen, Lawrence, James, Charles and Richard, and 2 sisters, Elizabeth Miller and Dorothy Johnsoin.

He is survived by his wife Charlene Johnson of Beresford, SD; his son Keith Johnson and his wife Linda of Earth, TX; his sister Ethel Hughes of Rapid City, SD; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, December 23, 2016 at Komstad Covenant Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
