William A. DeLay was born March 23, 1934 in Beresford, SD to parents Leo and Helen (Petersen) DeLay. He died April 18, 2010 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 76 years and 25 days.

Bill graduated from Beresford High School and studied Dairy Sciences at South Dakota State University in Brookings. He married Betty Jacobson on June 9, 1956. Bill worked at Fruen Grain Elevator for many years and was very active with the Beresford Fire Department.

Bill was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford.

He is survived by his wife Betty DeLay of Beresford; four children, Jeff DeLay of Brandon, SD, Julie Deming and husband Bob of Fairfax, MN, Terry DeLay and wife Maria of Germany, and Tim DeLay and wife Ann of Hudson, SD; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; brother Lee DeLay and wife Pat of California; sister Carolyn Bridge of New Jersey; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Leone DeLay and Annetta Rieck.

Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Friday, April 23 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford, with burial at Nazareth Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Thursday from 4PM to 8PM with family present from 6PM to 8PM and a prayer service at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
