Obituary

Wesley Fahlberg was born on November 23, 1920 and died on July 19, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was the oldest of the family of Joel and Ruth (Swanstrom) Fahlberg, born in the farmhouse built by his grandfather Peter on the home place north of Beresford. He completed his grade school education at Pleasant Country School, and he graduated from Beresford High School in 1939. Loving the farm, he chose to work with his father to help put his brother and sister through college rather than go himself. On February 11, 1949, he married Maurine Norman, the girl he had met in the nursery of Brooklyn Church many years earlier. They were blessed with 4 children: Daphne, Jane, Peter, and John. They lived and worked on the farm where he was born, making a lifetime of memories together. Wes served as treasurer for Pleasant Township and for Brooklyn Church for many years, as well as serving on the Brooklyn Cemetery Board. In 1991, Wes and Maurine moved into Beresford, where they developed a new circle of friends in a neighborhood birthday party. But he never really retired from farming, choosing instead to lend to his family his hands, heart, and wisdom over the years. His love of his family, sense of humor, and words of encouragement and counsel are dear treasures to many. Wes was preceded in death by his parents Joel and Ruth, sister Ruth Louise, wife Maurine, infant daughter Daphne, sister in law Mary Fahlberg, and brother in law Charles McIlveene. Among those who survive and greatly treasure his life are his brother Addison of Denver, CO; sister Betty Marie of Dallas, TX; sisters-in-law Berniece Thissell, and Lorraine Norman of Beresford; daughter Jane (Wayne) Smith of Pipestone, MN; sons Peter (Doreen) and John (Sandy) of Beresford; grandchildren Rachel (Jason) Riebe of Taylors Falls, MN, Ben (Talisha), Brian (fiancé Morgan), Tiana and Tarin, all of Beresford; great-grandchildren Trevin and Hannah Fahlberg, Ellis, Gabrielle, and Lucia Riebe, and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, from 4 to 7 PM at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church, rural Beresford, with a celebration honoring his life at 7 PM. The family requests that memorial gifts be directed to the Brooklyn Cemetery Fund in lieu of flowers.
