Wayne Leroy Anderson, 91, was born May 14, 1925 to Alfred and Minnie (Lumberg) Anderson in Beresford, SD. Roy was called home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2016. He attended high school in Beresford, and was drafted to the US Army in 1945. He served in Germany and France and was honorably discharged in 1947. Roy married Gertrude Vik on June 1, 1948. To this union, sons Ronald, John and Terry were born.
Roy farmed and milked cows for 42 years near Centerville. His son Ron came home and partnered in the family business for 18 years. Roy was a trucker for many years as well. Upon retiring in 1998, he and Gertie moved to Beresford, and he worked at Custom Coils in Alcester until 2015. Roy also worked for Brooklyn Township for 18 years mowing road-sides. Roy enjoyed woodworking and coffee breaks with friends at Truck Towne. He was a member of Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church his entire life, and served on cemetery boards for many years.
Preceding him in death are his parents, sons John and Ron, grandson Brian, brothers Clarence (Belle), Cliff (Dorothy), Virgil (Agnes), and sisters Gladys (Elmer) Dahlin, LaVonne (Leif) Aalberg, Fran (Richard) Schulz, and Mary Ann (Harry) Gay. Roy is survived by his wife Gertie, son Terry and his wife Randi, daughters-in-law Kay Anderson (Steve Rice) and Priscilla Potas, grandchildren Aaron (Dua) Anderson, Ashley (Jon) Huber, Alan (Laura) Anderson, Brad (Kathleen) Anderson, and Lauren Wood as well as great-grandchildren Elise, Howard, Harrison, Perry, Ziah, David, and twins Jack and Rae.
Visitation at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford will be held Sunday, June 19th from 5-7pm with a prayer service at 6:00. Funeral service and burial will follow Monday, 6/20 at Brooklyn Church at 11am. BBQ dinner will be served.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations to the John Anderson Memorial Scholarship in Dairy Science at South Dakota State University (c/o Vikram Mistry, SDSU Dairy Science, Box 2104, Brookings, SD 57007).
