Obituary

Vivian B. Vik, age 88, died December 24, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Centerville, SD. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28th at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6:00-7:30p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Vivian Benedith Johnson was born northeast of Centerville January 19, 1919 to Theodore and Ellen (Anderson) Johnson. She attended Millbrook country school and Centerville High School. She was blessed as a baby and confirmed in Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church in rural Beresford. She married Edious Ed Vik Feb. 21, 1938. Two children were born to this union; daughter, Edna and son, Darrell. Vivian was baptized and confirmed at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville where she was active in the ALCW Circle, a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher and she enjoyed quilting. She was a charter member of the Country Garden Club and enjoyed flowers and gardening all her life. Vivian was a fabulous cook and loved making all the Scandinavian pastries at Christmas. The couple farmed in the Komstad and Beresford area for four years, then moved two miles west of Centerville in 1947 and farmed there for 17 years. In 1964 they purchased the motel, trailer court and the Coast-to-Coast store in Viborg. After 31 years, they retired and purchased a home in Centerville. In 2003 they entered the Good Samaritan Center; Ed died March 29, 2005. Survivors include her daughter, Edna Vik of Centerville; son, Darrell Vik and his wife, Pam of Beresford; granddaughter, Danelle Beck and her husband, Darin; grandson, Dillon Vik of Beresford; two sisters, Elvera (Bud) Knutson and LeRena (Arlan) Ostrem all of Beresford; many nieces, nephews and friends. Her parents, husband, three sisters, Eleanor Haugland, Elaine Hall and Lynette Osthus and brothers, Lloyd Johnson and infant brother, Donald Johnson preceded her in death.
