Virginia Mae Ericson, age 86, of Alcester, SD died July 22, 2008 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26th at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester with the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Virginia was born November 5, 1921 in Alcester, SD to Einar and Valborg (Larsson) Anderson. She graduated from Alcester High School in 1939 and from South Dakota State University in 1943 with a BS degree in Home Economics. Virginia was married to Ralph St. Pierre in Alcester in 1943. He died in 1949. Virginia married Ivan Ericson in Laverne, MN in 1955. She was a Home Economics teacher at Alcester High School where she also taught Art and Science and started the FHA (Future Homemakers of America) Chapter. In 1978, Virginia received the FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer Award. She taught for 29 years, retiring in 1980. In 1982, she was named the Outstanding Senior Home Economist by the South Dakota Home Economics Association. Virginia was a member of Nathanael Lutheran Church and was active in church council, the Bell Choir and LCW. She also enjoyed being a member of Eastern Star, ADK Sorority, South Dakota Home Economics Association and FHA. She is survived by her five children, Susan (Kent) Edson of Aberdeen, David (Deb) St. Pierre of Rapid City, Margery St. Pierre of Seattle, James (Poth) St. Pierre of Seattle and Charles (Brenda) Ericson of Alcester; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Pat (Chuck) Sundstrom of Alcester and her faithful companion, Terry Montgomery. Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Ralph and Ivan and sister, Enolia Bentley.
