Violet Esther Siemers was born April 18, 1919 in Union County, South Dakota to George and Inez (Shuck) Fickbohm. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She died November 2, 2014 at Bethesda of Beresford at the age of 95 years, six months and 14 days. Violet was raised on the family farm and attended Prospect Hill and Garland country schools. She married Walter Swanson who passed away shortly thereafter. To this union was born a son, Raymond, who died in infancy. Violet moved to California where she worked at the Los Angeles Veterans Home. She returned to the Alcester area and married Victor Siemers on December 29, 1941 at Peace Lutheran Church. Together they farmed near Alcester until 1982 when they retired, and moved into Alcester. Following Victor's death in 1984, Violet continued to live in Alcester until moving to the Bethesda nursing home in 2011. She was a devoted volunteer and a talented piano player. She shared her musical gift with many people for many years and was a member of the "Toe Tappers" who played for local celebrations. Violet was a committed member of Peace Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid; she also enjoyed quilting and was an excellent seamstress evident in the many banners she made for the church. Survivors include her three daughters, Ione (Norman) Ronell of Fullerton, NE, Ilene Siemers of St. Louis, MO and Inez (Doug) Hoisington of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Karren (Brad) Peterson and their children, Sally, Sam, Scott and Seth, Jason Ronell, Lara (Tyler) Tiller and their children Benjamin and Nicholas, Charity (Corey) Condon and their children, Rylie and Chase, Zach (Carrie) Hoisington and their son, Tate; three sisters, Iva Siemers of Alcester, Wilma Siemers of Sioux Falls and Opal Keiser of Hawarden, IA; one sister-in-law, Irene (Mrs. Merl) Fickbohm of Beresford and many nieces and nephews. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Walter Swanson and their infant son, Raymond; her second husband, Victor Siemers; six brothers, Henry, Ralph, Lloyd, Roy, Merl and Clarence Fickbohm; two sisters, Edith Beck and Evelyn Larson and one granddaughter-in-law, Megan (Mrs. Zach) Hoisington. Funeral services will be at 10:30AM Friday, Nov. 7th at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester. Visitation will be from 2-8PM Thursday at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester with the family present from 5-7PM.
