Funeral services for Verlyn Lapour will be Wednesday, August 11th at 10AM at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester. Visitation will be Tuesday at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester from 2-8PM with the family present from 6-8PM.
Verlyn K. Lapour was born August 19, 1937 in Geddes, South Dakota to parents Roy and Marcella (Johnson) Lapour and entered into death on August 7, 2010 at Morningside Manor in Alcester, South Dakota at the age of 72 years.
Verlyn moved with his parents and family to the Beresford area in 1941 where he attended rural school. In 1949 he moved to the Alcester area with his parents and family. He graduated from Alcester Elementary School and later received his GED from the Department of Public Instruction in Pierre, South Dakota. He served in the Air National Guard for six years.
On October 11, 1958, Verlyn married Gertrude Fink at St. Peters Lutheran church of rural Armour, South Dakota. They lived in Sioux Falls for several months before they moved to a farm near Alcester where they lived until 1996 when they made their home in Alcester.
Verlyn was baptized at Platte Valley Lutheran Church on September 19, 1937. He was confirmed at Nathanael Lutheran Church on June 1, 1952, where he retained membership until his death. He taught Sunday school, was a counselor for the youth organization for several years, served on the church council, and was chairman of the ushers committee.
Verlyn served on the Alcester Township Board, was a member of the South Dakota Livestock Feeders Association, and was also a member of the Sioux Empire Gem and Mineral Association. Verlyn was active in the Alcester Lions Club and in 1989 he was part of the South Dakota Centennial Committee.
Verlyn was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Marcella Lapour. Among those who survive and gratefully shared his life are his wife Gertrude; children, Kay (Jon) Coker, Kelli Cotter, and Keith (Erika) Lapour; sisters, Noreen Medici and Eileen Ulferts; brother, Royce Lapour; and nine grandchildren, Drew, Miranda, Brendan, Tom, Dara,
Keith, Patrick, Cash and Jack.
