Obituary

Verlyn E. Hybertson was born February 18, 1932 to John and Olga (Opland) Hybertson, rural Centerville, the third of six sons.  He passed away peacefully on July 13, 2017 at Sanford Hospital, Sioux Falls. Visitation will be at Wass Funeral Home, Centerville from  6 - 8PM Tuesday, July 18, 2017, with family present. Funeral services will be celebrated at First Baptist Church, 22nd and Covell Avenue, Sioux Falls, 10:30AM Wednesday, July 19th with burial at 1:15PM at Riverview Cemetery in Centerville.

Verlyn graduated from Centerville High School in 1949, then went on to the School of Hard Knocks.  On June 5, 1955 he married  Judy Varnum; she preceded him in death April 20, 2009. They had four children:  Bob, Don, Bonnie and Connie.

His faith, family and friends were centrally important to him.

While living in Rapid City, Verlyn served four terms as chairman of the Board of Trustees at First Baptist Church, Rapid City.  Farming has always been his passion, but he owned and operated several businesses in Rapid City.  He loved doing mechanic work, welding, and operating heavy machinery.  (Verlyn was capable of repairing most anything mechanical.)  He worked on a number of inventions, the most important of which was a flame-less, portable, industrial heater, manufactured and marketed by Therm Dynamics, which he and his wife Judy owned.  His children Bob, Don and Bonnie were greatly involved in the business and had valuable input.  The business was sold when Verlyn's health deteriorated in the fall of 2007.

Verlyn married Sally Rice on November 8, 2014, a bonus for both of them.

He will be remembered for his generosity, humility, quick wit, and honesty.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; one brother, Ferd (Barbara) Hybertson; four sisters-in-law, Esther, Barbara, Eloise and Ramona; four children, Robert (Rebecca) Hybertson of Brighton, CO, Donald Hybertson of Sioux Falls, Bonnie Rowland of Vermilion, and Connie Fenenga of Rapid City; five grandchildren, Chara, Crista, Joshua, Mark and Rachel; five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, especially Srinivas, Uma, Mauna and Dhanya Yalamanchi.

Verlyn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Judy; and brothers, Delmar, Roswell, Dean and Harris.

Bequests may be made to Camp Judson in care of First Baptist Church.
