Velma B. Wiese was born February 11, 1914 in Centerville, SD to parents Paul and Emma (Smith) Wiese. She died March 8, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Centerville, SD at the age of 95 years and 27 days.
Velma graduated from Centerville High School in 1933. She worked at the Egge Caf for 5 years. She worked for about 25 years at the Good Samaritan Center as a nurses aid, retiring in the early 1980s. She later became a resident at the Good Samaritan Center and resided there until her death.
Velma was a lifelong member of First English Church in Centerville. She also belonged to American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Velma loved playing cards, bingo, games of all kinds, and baking.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Lester Wiese, Kenneth Wiese, Franz Wiese, and Ruth Fokken.
She is survived by her sister Frances Sis Preheim of Centerville, SD; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Velma and her family want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the employees of the Good Samaritan Center and Asera Care Hospice for the wonderful care and friendship they have given her.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Wednesday, March 11 at First English Lutheran Church, Centerville, with burial at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
