Thomas Michael Thompson, age 54, of Sioux Falls, SD died July 11, 2008 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls after his heart was stricken with viral cardiomyopathy. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2008 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the church with the family present from 5:30-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:-00 p.m. Thomas Michael Thompson was born January 23, 1954 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to proud parents Kenneth O. and Virginia M. (Dolan) Thompson. He entered into eternal life on July 11, 2008 at the age of 54 years, five months and 18 days at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls after his heart was stricken with viral cardiomyopathy. Tom grew up in Beresford and after high school he graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings with a BS in physical education. Tom had 20 successful years at Ben Hur Ford, now Sioux Falls Ford, in Sioux Falls. After many years in the car business, Tom decided he wanted to make a career change. Tom always liked to talk and he loved helping people so he chose a path where he could showcase both of these admirable qualities at Good Samaritan in Sioux Falls. Tom was always known by the residents and staff as being kind and cheerful. One particular 90 year old resident had a special connection with Tom and always wanted to know where is my man in red' (Tom usually wore maroon scrubs). In Toms leisure time he enjoyed sports memorabilia, antiquing and hanging out with family and friends. Tom will always be remembered for his infectious smile that he was always quick to share with anyone he came in contact with. His mother, his sister and his brother would like everyone to know that they were blessed to have Tom as a son a brother and a friend. We will miss you Tom. Tom was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Thompson. Among those who survive and gratefully shared Toms life are his mother, Virginia of Beresford; his sister, Mary Andersen and her husband, Roger of Des Moines, Iowa; his brother, Philip Thompson and his wife, Dana of Colleyville, Texas; three nephews, Joseph Andersen and his wife, Riva, Daniel Andersen and Grant Thompson; niece, Paige Thompson and a dear friend, Betty Schultz of Sioux Falls. In addition Tom had many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers too numerous to mention by name but forever grateful for having shared in his life. The family of Tom would also like to take this opportunity to thank the countless number of family and friends that lent their support, prayers, tears, food and help during Toms courageous battle to stay here with all of us. We would also like to acknowledge the excellent care and concern that Tom was provided while in the care of the nurses, doctors, priests and chaplains at Avera McKennan Hospital.
