Funeral services for Terry D. Olsen will be at 1PM Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6-8PM and a prayer service at 7PM.
Terry Donald Olsen was born August 1, 1938 to Clarence Bud and Myrtle (Temple) Olsen in Centerville, SD. He died December 12, 2009 at his home in Centerville at the age of 71 years, four months and 11 days. Following graduation from Centerville High School in 1956, Terry attended college at Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD, before joining the US Navy where he received an honorable discharge.
December 11, 1965 he married Mary Ann Johnson. They lived in Omaha, NE for a brief period before settling west of Centerville where he began farming with his father. Terry was also employed by the Centerville and Yankton Stockyards. In the mid-eighties, he quit farming and, along with Roger Wiese, built the Desert Inn in Centerville in 1983. He did crop insurance adjusting from the 1980's and was currently employed with Heartland Crop Insurance.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, being outdoors, playing pinochle and rooting for the Minnesota Vikings.
He is survived by his three children, Cyndi (Dale) Jensen of Viborg, Thad (Vynetta) Olsen of Fergus Falls, MN and Tresha Olsen and special friend Jimmy Moffett of Elizabethton, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Meagan and Dylan Jensen, Bryce and Tyler Olsen, Brett Collins, Michael Ervin, Tejah, Caden and Piper Olsen; sister, Gloria Jorgensen of Omaha, NE; niece, Michelle (Dan) Burger; nephew, Brian Jorgensen; and many family members and friends who he loved and who helped celebrate his life.
His parents and brother-in-law, Robert Jorgensen preceded him in death.
