Susan Elaine Ambur, 95, of Beresford, South Dakota, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, surrounded by her family. For the past five years, she resided in Brookings, South Dakota, at various care facilities.

Susan was born on July 20, 1930, in Beresford, South Dakota, the daughter of Minna and Ernest Smith. She attended school in Beresford through the fifth grade, continued her education in Custer for grades six through eight, Orange City, Iowa for grades eight through ten, and returned to Beresford where she graduated from high school. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of South Dakota. Susan began her teaching career at Irving School in Sioux Falls. While raising her family, she also taught in the Title I Reading program in Beresford.

On June 10, 1951, Susan was united in marriage to Robert Ambur. Together they made their home on the family farm near Beresford, where they raised their five children. Susan was devoted to her family and enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, and square dancing in her earlier years. She was actively involved in her children's 4-H activities, assisting with baking, sewing, and livestock projects. Known for her remarkable talent and industrious spirit, she created more than 50 quilts and filled her home with handmade works of art.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Roberta "Bobbi" Ambur (Jim Means) of Yankton, South Dakota; Jill Wiesner (Gary) of Pickstown, South Dakota; Lori Ambur of Boise, Idaho; Janet Ambur (Steve Galliger) of Brookings, South Dakota; and Gregg (Teresa) Ambur of San Diego, California. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Minna and Ernest Smith; and her brothers, Kendall and Pierce Smith.

Funeral services for Susan Elaine Ambur will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Beresford Zion United Methodist Church. Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m.
