Steven Charles Hanssen was born May 22, 1956 in Sioux Falls, SD to parents Chuck and JoAnn (Boulware) Hanssen. He died November 11, 2014 at Avera MeKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 58 years, 5 months and 19 days. Steve graduated from high school in Mitchell, SD in 1974. He married Deb DeVries on December 18, 1976. The couple lived in Sioux Falls until moving to Centerville, SD in 1991. For the last 17 years Steve has been employed at Dakota Kitchen and Bath in Sioux Falls. Steve was an avid Minnesota Viking fan and enjoyed golfing. He loved his job and was a dedicated employee. He has battled cancer since 2007 and worked up until the last week of his life. His greatest passion was his family as he deeply cherished the time he was able to be with them. Steve has been a soldier for Christ his entire life but has especially felt God calling him in the last five months to spread the story of God's love and grace through Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. His survivors are his wife Deb Hanssen, Centerville; two sons, Adam Hanssen and Cody Hanssen of Centerville; daughter Jodi (Brady) Childress all of Centerville; four grandchildren, Micah, Haley, Zach and Gavin; parents Chuck and JoAnn Hanssen, Sioux Falls; two brothers, Randy (Sandy) Hanssen, Mitchell and Kevin Hanssen, Sioux Falls; father and mother-in-law Sy and Darlene DeVries, Centerville; two sisters-in-law Patti (Todd) Gackstetter, Hartford, and Lisa (Troy) Belden, Sioux Falls; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life for Steve will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 15 at Delaware Reformed Church, rural Lennox. Visitation will be Friday from 3PM to 8PM with family present from 6PM to 8PM with a sharing time at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville.
