Obituary

Stephen John Pool was born January 13, 1932 near Davis, South Dakota to parents Frank and Alice (Noteboom) Pool. He died December 20, 2008 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 76 years.

Steve graduated from Chancellor High School in 1950. He then began his lifelong career as a farmer. Steve married Norma Fokken on November 25, 1955 in Lennox, SD. The couple farmed in the Lennox area for 5 years before moving to rural Centerville in 1961. Steve retired from farming in 1996 and moved into Centerville. He drove school bus for over 50 years in the Lennox and Centerville school systems, being forced to retire from driving two years ago due to ill health.

Steve was an active and devoted member of the United Church of Christ in Centerville where he had served in many different capacities over the years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Centerville. Steve was an avid sports fan. He drove the bus to hundreds of sporting events and followed the teams closely. He also loved watching his children and grandchildren in their various activities. He enjoyed hunting, bowling and fishing with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Phyllis.

His survivors include his wife Norma Pool of Centerville; son Mark Pool and wife Melanie of Goose Creek, SC; two daughters: Sheree Trapp of Sioux Falls and Kathy Boomgarden and husband Dan of Davis; 7 grandchildren: Mallory and Amanda Trapp, Adam, Jessica, and Megan Boomgarden, and Stephen and Emily Pool; 3 great grandchildren: Samantha, Erica and Eli Boomgarden; two brothers: Robert Pool and wife Mary of Escondido, CA and Gary Pool and wife Kay of Cullawhee, NC; two sisters: Audrey Snoozy of Beresford and Kay Smith and husband Larry of Jonesboro, GA; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM, Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at the United Church of Christ in Centerville with burial at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5PM to 8PM with family present from 6PM to 8PM and a Masonic Service at 7:00PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville.
