Shawn DuBois, 61, of Beresford, SD, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation with the family present will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m., on Monday, September 14, 2026, at United Church of Christ in Centerville, SD. His funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, also at the church. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Centerville, SD.

Shawn Dale DuBois was born on February 25, 1965, in Hudson, South Dakota, to Dale and Barbara (Diersmann) DuBois. Shawn attended Centerville High School, where he graduated in 1983. He then went on to attend Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, South Dakota, for diesel mechanics from the fall of 1983 to the spring of 1985. During this time, Shawn worked for the SDSU research farm during the summers. After college, Shawn worked for a short while at Holcomb Freight until he started working at John Morrell’s, where he worked through March of 2001. After John Morrell’s, Shawn started his career at Showplace Cabinetry, where he worked for 25 years.

Shawn was united in marriage to Lyn Reekers (Larson) and were blessed with two children, Emily and Seath. Shawn was later united in marriage to Joannie Lyle (Nielsen) in December of 2008, until her passing in November of 2018. During his final years, Shawn met Renee Goltz and she became his very cherished side by side friend and his strength until his very last day.

During his lifetime, Shawn was known for having a kind heart, lending a helpful hand, and having a good time! Shawn was always working! If he wasn’t on the clock at his job, he was at home working on little things here and there. Shawn enjoyed gardening, breeding dogs, making time to help his lifetime best friend, David Rist, on his farm, as well as lending a helping hand to many other loved ones. Shawn also loved the Green Bay Packers, listening to country music, going camping, and spending time with his family and friends.

Grateful for having shared his life are his father, Dale DuBois of Lennox, SD; children, Emily DuBois of Primghar, IA; son, Seath DuBois of Hospers, IA; stepchildren, Doug (Deb) Lyle of Beresford, SD, Angie (Mike) Wiebers of Sioux Falls, SD, and Billy (Shelly) Lyle of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Derek (Madison), Gage, Larissa, Kaelyn, Isabella, Kendalyn, Owen, and Knox; great-grandchildren, Quinn and Blair; sister, Verla DuBois of Lennox, SD; brother, Bruce DuBois of Beresford, SD; and brothers-in-law, Bob (Sheryl) Nielsen and Jack (Dianne) Nielsen, both of Beresford, SD. Shawn is also survived by many other extended family and friends.

Shawn was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara DuBois; wife, Joannie DuBois; grandson, Zachary Wiebers; in-laws, Gwen & Harlan Nielsen; and sister-in-law, Laurie DuBois.
