Sharon Lee Voegeli was born January 13, 1937 in Sioux Falls, SD to Robert Patrick Brady and Dorothy Fern Wood and passed away at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD Feb 7, 2024. Sharon married Dick Voegeli on June 14, 1955 at Eastside Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls SD. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick, her brother Ron Thompson and sisters Sherrel Frazer, Pamela Summerville and Laurie Thompson. Also, by her great-grandsons Aaron and Isaiah Koeppe.
Sharon grew up in Worthing, SD during the war years. She had a strong work ethic. At age 5 she helped her mother by delivering telegrams from the telephone switchboard located in their home. During her teen years she rode her scooter to school, returning home to babysit with her siblings and friends.
Sharon and Dick began their whirlwind life in an 8-foot by 28-foot spacious mobile home. The newlyweds began farming near Valley Springs, where they welcomed Lorry and Tracy. Warm weather and new opportunities called them to move to California. The family was soon joined by Mark and Lynne. Once again farming and family called their hearts back to South Dakota.
Four children born within 6 years made for busy hands. Sharon always excelled in the workforce. From working at Ravens making high altitude balloons, to being a line supervisor in the community sewing industries. She also worked for several fencing companies in the Sioux Falls and Omaha areas. Many times she would say "Why am I running this business for the people that own it, I am just a secretary."
Sharon never missed a Sunday going to church. Wrangling all four kids to get ready was an act of God, which only a loving mother could do. She always made time for Faith and Reflections.
Sharon was actively involved in Ladies Aid and Thimble Worker's Quilting. The Methodist Church women are known for serving many church functions. Sharon was also known for her baking and was loved for being the "Banana Bread Queen". No one left her house without a banana bread loaf in hand.
She will be missed by her grandchildren, Lisa (Bob) Koeppe, Laura Carlson, Matt Simonson, Danielle (Digger) Wells, Jordan (Allie) Hamling and Marina Voegeli. Sharon is also loved by her great-grandchildren, Anna (Brian) Kauffman, Nathan (Lea) Koeppe, Olivia Carlson, Rachel Koeppe, Mariah Carlson, Samuel Koeppe, Nova Simonson, Deluca Wells and Decker Wells.
Thank you for honoring Sharon's life from her children Lorry (Vern) Carlson, Tracy Voegeli, Mark Voegeli and Lynne (Scott) Hamling.
Memorials may be sent to the Zion Cemetery Fund, 29359 474th Avenue, Beresford, SD 57004.
