Sandra Ann Johnson was born June 26, 1942, in Hawarden, Iowa, to Andrew "Tommy" and Sigrid (Ekren) Eggen. She died August 24, 2023, in a vehicle accident near Alcester, South Dakota.

Sandra was raised on the family farm south of Nora, South Dakota, was baptized and confirmed at Roseni Lutheran Church, and attended Nora Country School. Sandra graduated from Alcester High School in 1960 and attended business school in Sioux City, Iowa. Her first job was with Cargill in Minneapolis. She soon realized big city life (especially riding the municipal bus) wasn't for her. So, Sandra came home and began work as a receptionist, and eventually a teller, at the State Bank of Alcester. Sandra married Ronald G. Johnson on June 13, 1964. Together, they raised four children while Sandra took on the important role of stay-at-home mom. Once the last of the four kids had made their way through elementary school, Sandra returned to the State Bank of Alcester, retiring in 2010.

She was an active member at Big Springs Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and helping with the Ladies Aid. She also volunteered at the Alcester Thrift Store and delivered Meals-on-Wheels. In addition to loving her grandchildren and attending their many activities, she especially enjoyed gardening and growing flowers.

Sandra was a member of the Red Hats/Gad Abouts and had fun on their many outings. Within the last several years, Sandra discovered it wasn't only farmers who could go to town for coffee. She came to truly enjoy her nearly daily visits with the morning coffee group at the Daily Dose in Alcester.

Her parents, and two sisters, Joyce Ludwig and Lois (Burdette) Sundstrom preceded Sandra in death.

Grateful for sharing her life is her husband of 59 years, Ronald Johnson; children, Erik (Darla) Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Carl (Lynnette) Johnson of Harrisburg, South Dakota, Mary Johnson of Sioux Falls and Aaron (Heather) Johnson of Sioux Falls. Also surviving are her eight grandchildren, Grace, Charlie, Rachael, Raina, Andrew, Ally, Sarah and Seth; her brother, Arlo (Beverly) Eggen of AZ; and brother-in-law, Duane Ludwig of CA.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2023, at Big Springs Baptist Church, rural Alcester, South Dakota, with burial to follow at Big Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Wass Funeral Chapel in Alcester with a 7 p.m. prayer service. The family requests memorials to Big Springs Baptist Church for streaming equipment upgrades or to the Big Springs Cemetery Association.
