He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith at Dalesburg Lutheran Church of rural Beresford. Sam and his mother made their home with his grandmother Joyce Lundquist. After Heather's graduation from the University of SD they once again moved back to the farm while Heather worked at her social work job in Sioux City, IA and the McCrossen's Boys Ranch. Sam started his first day of Kindergarten in Beresford. He rode the bus and made sure no one would see him kiss anyone good bye. Sam and Heather moved to Rock Rapids, IA where his mother worked for Hope Haven Child Protection. They attended the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. He also enjoyed Awana meetings in Rock Rapids. Sam was within walking distance to the library. He had a pet cat and the cat would walk with him to the library and wait for Sam outside the door. Sam also attended school at Valley Springs until the end of the sixth grade. He played the French horn and also took violin lessons. He was very active in Boy Scouts and won a trophy for his car design and his enthusiasm at the race car derby. In the summer he played baseball. He and his mother both loved the holidays and decorated for them all. Sam's mother passed away in the middle of his sixth grade year. He then went to live with his Uncle Mike and Aunt Julie while he finished the sixth grade, after which he went to live with his Grandmother Joyce. They moved to Arizona and Sam attended school at Pilgrim Lutheran School through his ninth grade. While at Pilgrim he took part in basketball, track, and music. He took piano and after 3 months placed first in a piano contest. He also took percussion lessons. He still liked to play his keyboard. He was confirmed at the Pilgrim Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, Mesa, AZ. He then attended one semester at the Arizona Missouri Synod Lutheran Academy and then transferred to Mesa Public School system the second semester. At this time he started to let his hair grow. He donated it to Locks of Love. Sam moved back to Beresford with his grandmother and attended his 11th grade in Beresford. He graduated from Vermillion High School where he enjoyed acting in the play "Harvey". He also worked backstage in other plays. During his years in South Dakota he also enjoyed guitar lessons from Pastor Kwen Sanderson. After high school he went to live with his Uncle Wayne in San Antonio, TX. While there he worked at a Valero gas station and also a Subway. He also got to know his Texas cousins. Sam loved South Dakota and moved back to the farm for a time and enrolled in school at Southeastern Technical Institute in Sioux Falls. This past summer he started his own computer repair business of which he was very proud. When school started he put his business on hold. He worked very hard at his school work at SETI and enjoyed all his instructors. During his short life he made many true friends.
