Russell L. Cox was born September 13, 1945 in Seward, Nebraska to Lloyd and Sarah (Shaw) Cox. He died at his home April 7, 2015 in Centerville, South Dakota at the age of 69 years, six months and 24 days. Russell was raised and attended school in Nebraska. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Russ returned home and began his career in commercial roofing in the Lincoln, Nebraska area. He married LaVon Serr and they continued to live in Lincoln. Wanting to be closer to their granddaughters, Russ and LaVon moved to South Dakota in 2006. They lived on an acreage near Wakonda, SD and moved into Centerville in 2013 where they have lived since. He liked all things "western"; his cowboy hat, western movies, country music and tooling leather items. Russ also enjoyed wood working, raising a garden and doing jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include his wife, LaVon Cox of Centerville; step-son, Ty (Ellen) Serr of Lennox; six granddaughters, Tiffany, Tieler, Tira, Tannen, Timber and Toni and one great-grandson, Dominic. Russ is also survived by two brothers and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of life gathering will be held at 3PM Friday, April 24, 2015 at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville. A reception will follow at the Desert Inn in Centerville.
