Rosemary
Sebern
Sep 19, 1945 — Aug 29, 2026
Beresford
Rosemary Sebern, peacefully entered her eternal home Saturday, August 29, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Rosemary "Rosie" Brennan Sebern, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, was born on September 19, 1945, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She was the daughter of Francis and Gladys Brennan and was the third of five children. Rosie was preceded in life by her devoted parents and her dear sisters, Ellen (Brennan) Brown and Kathleen (Brennan) Brugman.
Rosie shared an extraordinary life with her husband, Richard Sebern, whom she married on December 17, 1966, in Emmetsburg, IA. Together, they celebrated over 59 years of marriage, nurturing a loving family that includes their three children—Michael (Amy); Jason (Holly); and Michelle (Chris). Rosie was also a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and one great-grandson, who were the light of her life.
Rosie was a graduate of Emmetsburg Catholic High School in 1963. After graduating High School, Rosie attended Stewart School of Hairstyling in Sioux City, Iowa, where she earned her cosmetology license. After working for Stewarts for a short time, she purchased and opened a salon in Emmetsburg. Her career as a hairdresser eventually lead her to Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, where she later fulfilled the role as an activities director and dedicated a total of 33 years of service.
Rosie's life was deeply intertwined with her faith, and she was a devoted member of the St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Beresford for nearly five decades. Her service to the church was a testament to her faith and community spirit, as she offered her time and talents in various capacities through the years.
In her personal life, Rosie was a natural nurturer, her love for her family was palpable. Summers spent vacationing on the river with her children and grandchildren were among her most cherished moments. She was a proud supporter of her family's activities, where she was often the loudest cheerleader in the stands. Infamous for her homemade pies, Rosie delighted in sharing them with those she loved.
Rosie embraced life with a strong work ethic and unyielding determination. Her selfless nature was evident in every role she undertook, always prioritizing the needs of others above her own. Proud of her Irish heritage, she found joy in collecting shamrock Christmas decor, which adorned her home and symbolized her deep-rooted pride.
Even into her seventies, Rosie maintained an active lifestyle, relishing in outdoor yard work, taking walks, and participating in fitness classes.
Rosie's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Centerville Care and Rehab for the compassionate care and kindness shown to her and all of them. The family warmly invites all who knew and loved her to a service celebrating her life at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, located at 901 S Third St., Beresford, SD. Prayer service will be held at St. Teresa's Monday, August, 31 from 5-7pm with family present. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 10:30 a.m.
