Ronald Owen Quall, 78 years old, met his eternal tee time with God on Saturday, January 4, 2020. Born July 8, 1941 to Owen and Lilly Quall, Ron spent his early years living on a family farm outside of Alcester, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Roseni Lutheran Church. Ronald was the youngest of three with two sisters Marlene Johnson and Marlys (Brad) Bonynge. After graduating from Alcester High School, he continued to farm and married Elaine Nylund and had four children. Eventually, he moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where he worked for Gateway for many years before retiring in 2003 in Jefferson, South Dakota. Recently, Ron was recovering from a heart procedure at the Akron Care Center prior to his passing.
Ronald had a great sense of humor which can be summed up as "Ronisms." He enjoyed watching sports (some may say he was bandwagon fan with his football teams), but he appreciated winning teams with quality players. If not watching sports on TV or seeing his grandchildren compete, Ron enjoyed a competitive game of golf, winters spent in Arizona, a spirited card game with family and friends (where he didn't take losing lightly), gardening and mowing his meticulous yard, and time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. In addition, Ron was known for his holiday traditions of making Norwegian lutefisk, oyster stew, fudge, and rosettes. His children will continue to carry on his traditions with their families.
Ron leaves behind four children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: Brian (Kara) Quall of Canton, South Dakota and their son Brett (Kari) Quall and grandson Anders; Jane Buum of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and her daughter Courtney (Chase) Weber and granddaughters Claire and Charley, and her son Conner (special friend Megan and children Natalie and Sean); Mark (Jenny) Quall of Alcester, South Dakota and their son Mike (Lux) Quall; and Andrea (Mark) Hoekstra of Des Moines, Iowa and their daughters Madison and Molly. Along with his immediate family, his sisters and many nieces and nephews are left to cherish his memory.
Ron left this life on earth believing in the words of John 3:16 – "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
A celebration of Ron's life will be from 5-8PM Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, South Dakota.
