Roger Erick Messler, 85, of Yankton, passed away November 17, 2016 at Avera Hospital in Yankton.

Roger was born on May 16, 1931 in Alsen, SD to Erick and Ebba Messler.  He grew up in Alsen and graduated from Beresford High School in 1949. He then went to Kansas City where he attended Plumbing School.  He married the love of his life Marylin White on December 27, 1950.  They then moved to Beresford where he joined his brother Ralph in business to form Messler Bros. sharing the shop with their brother Ray. He retired in 1993.  He and Marilyn then hit the road as full time RV'ers in 1995 until 2001.  They then moved to Yankton SD to be closer to theriver where he and Marilyn loved to spend time fishing.  Roger loved to stay busy around the house either fixing or making something.

He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  Roger was a hardworking man who also liked to play hard.  He cherished his time camping and fishing at the river with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn: five children, Gwen Messler Harry of West Point, VA,  Clare(Betty Jean) Messler of Colonial Heights, VA,  Jan(Dale) Liston of Fremont, NE, Curt(Sheri) Messler of Sioux Falls, SD,  and Carol Messler of West Point, VA.

Grandchildren: Wendy Liston, Chris(Crickett) Liston, Erick(Annie) Messler, Gabe(Ellie) Messler, Megan(Josh) Anthofer, Becky(Andy) Nelson,  Nick, Katie, and Joey Messler.

Great Grandchildren: Tyler, Nolan, Kali, Evan, Zakery, Trent, Emilee, Sarah, Graham, Guy, and Gus. He was preceded in death by: His parents, Erick and Ebba, Brothers Ray and Ralph,

Son-in-law Scott Harry, Great Granddaughter Hazel Liston, and his loyal four legged friend Phoebe.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 22 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation will be Monday from 6PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
