Roger D. Johnson, 74, passed away Thursday, June 14 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD.  Visitation will be 6:00-7:00 PM, Monday, June 18 at Skrefsrud Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, SD, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 19 at Skrefsrud Lutheran Church.

Roger Johnson was born December 31, 1943, in Yankton, SD, to Donald and Adelaide (Peterson) Johnson.  He grew up on the family's farm.  In 1961, he graduated from Centerville High School.  He married Tova Nielsen on October 20, 1962.  They were blessed with their children, Russell David in 1965 and Sandra JoAnn in 1969.  Roger and Tova spent their married life on several rented farms in the Centerville area until purchasing their home in 1972 on a farm located northwest of Beresford.

Farming was Roger's life.  He kept busy with his livestock and crops but he loved to keep up with the latest news by reading the paper and the green sheet or listening to WNAX to keep up with the Ag reports.  He truly enjoyed being home, never needing to travel or roam because his heart was on his farm.   He was a life-long member of Skrefsrud Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending with Tova and his family.

Roger is survived by his children, Russ (Lisa) Johnson, of rural Beresford, SD and Sandra (Corey) Highland, of rural Irene, SD; 4 grandchildren, Katie (Tom) Fischer, Sid Hart, Lexi Johnson and Riley Johnson; 3 great-grandchildren, Riggin, McKinley and Rustin; his brother, Wayne (Sandy) Johnson, of Beresford, SD; 2 sisters, Donna (Marlow) Christensen, of rural Beresford, SD and Mary (Howard) Erickson, of Spink, SD; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tova, in 2012; his parents; and 2 sisters, Helen and LaDell.
