Roger H. Bly, 85, passed away Sunday, January 20 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 26 at Scandia Lutheran Church, Centerville, SD. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, January 25 in Fellowship Hall of Scandia Lutheran Church followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Roger Harvey Bly was born March 8, 1933 in Rock County, MN to Helge and Edith (Harvey) Bly. He graduated from Garretson High School in 1951. He married Evelyn Johnson on May 2, 1954 at Palisades Church and they lived 64 joyous years together. After serving 2 years in the Army, he spent 26 years in the Naval Reserve (Seabee's).
Roger retired after working 35 years for Mid-American Energy. For 23 years, he and Evelyn enjoyed their place at Swan Lake and Lake Okoboji. They toured the United States in their motorhome and spent the winters in Texas and Arizona.
Roger enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout his life. He sponsored a race car at Huset's Speedway, played the saxophone in the Tommy Grable Dance Band for 10 years, and hunted deer, antelope and geese. He also spent quality time with many great friends while snowmobiling and boating.
Roger is lovingly remembered by his wife, Evelyn, Centerville, SD; daughter, Connie (Dale) Petersen, Centerville; son, Kevin (Terry) Bly, Goodyear, AZ; 3 grandchildren, Brianna (David) Fort, Englewood, CO, Tyler (Jamie) Bly, Dallas, TX and Jordan Petersen, Vermillion, SD; great-grandson, Tyler Roger Bly II; brother, Vernon Bly, DeLand, FL; and 2 sisters-in-law, Bonnie Bly, Garretson, SD and Betty Sutton, Rapid, City, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers and their wives, Maurice and Joyce Bly and Marvin and Dee Bly; brother, Jerry Bly; brother-in-law, Orville Johnson; and sisters-in-law, Edwarda Bly and Arlene Bly.
