Obituary

Rodney Berg was born January 4, 1933 in Union County, SD to parents Oscar and Alice (Hansen) Berg. He died August 23, 2010 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 19 days.

Rod attended schools in the Alcester area. He married Patricia Patty Goodwin on March 26, 1955 at the Methodist Church in Beresford. The couple lived in the Beresford and Alcester communities while Rod worked as a trucker for American Freight and Vaughn Trucking. He retired in 1998 and lived in Alcester until the current time.

Rod was a member of the United Church of Christ in Alcester. He also belonged to the NRA and the Teamsters Union. Rod enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He loved animals and was especially fond of his Bassett Hound, Bailey. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Lisa Briggle, and sister-in-law Barbara Berg.

Survivors include his wife Patty Berg of Alcester; son Jerry Berg and fianc Kathy Peterson of Viborg; son-in-law Lee Briggle, Alcester; 5 grandchildren, Nick (Laura) Sorlie, Jefferson, SD, Jerrad Berg and fianc Nicki, Luverne, MN, Toni Sorlie and special friend Chris, Alcester, Heath Sorlie, Alcester, and Kristen (Dillon) Bultena, Chancellor, SD; 4 great grandchildren, Olivia, Mariah, Alexsis, and Zackary; brother Allen Berg, Sioux Falls, sister Marlys (Dick) Hughes, Alcester; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, August 26 at the United Church of Christ in Alcester. Visitation with family will be Wednesday from 6:30PM to 8:00PM at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.
