Roberta J. Johnson was born September 16, 1921 in Clay County, SD to parents Ellis and Susan (Copeland) White, Sr. She died September 25, 2012 at Bethesda of Beresford at the age of 91 years and 9 days. Roberta was raised and educated in Clay County and graduated from Centerville High School. She married Edwin B. Johnson May 23, 1941 at Dalesburg Lutheran Church. Together they farmed and raised five sons. They retired into Beresford in 1976. Roberta worked at the K&K Store, Bierbaum Drug later called Hill Pharmacy. She moved to Centerville and worked as a receptionist at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville. Roberta returned to Beresford where she volunteered at Bethesda. She enjoyed making all crafts especially her corn husk dolls and painting. Roberta was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, WELCA, the VFW Auxiliary and the Eastern Star. Her family includes her four children, Arden (Dianne) Johnson of Moline, IL, Gary Johnson of Sioux Falls, Steve (Natalie) Johnson and Brad (Glenda) Johnson all of Beresford; daughter-in-law, Diane Johnson of Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (Roger) Messler of Yankton; sister-in-law, Betty White of Wasilla, AK and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, Edwin; son, Tom; brother, Ellis White, Jr.; and her parents preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM Friday, September, 28, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford, SD. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 6-7PM.
