Robert "Bob" Strand was born on May 14, 1942 to parents Orville and Grace (Dahlin) Strand and passed away peacefully on October 30, 2013. Bob grew up with his six siblings on a farm near Wakonda. He attended West Point School until the 6th grade and then finished his schooling in Wakonda, graduating from Wakonda High School in 1960. Bob married Shirley Van Driel on December 7, 1963 in Yankton SD. Bob and Shirley lived in Canton SD for 6 months before moving to Beresford where they made their home for over 49 years. They were blessed with two children, Jodi Lynn in 1973 and Eric Scott in 1978. Bob worked construction with his uncle Gordon Strand after graduation then later for Merriman Well Drilling of Beresford and finally Richard Ewing Equipment in Tea until his retirement. Bob was a volunteer fireman on the Beresford Fire Department for 41 years and was also a life-long member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Bob loved to golf and especially with his buddy Tubby for over 20 years. He also enjoyed 35 years of family camping trips, especially with friends Dix and Karen. But Bob's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren Jason and Maiya who he loved more than life itself. He will forever be the ultimate hero to his children and grandchildren for his courageous battles over the years. Those who survive and were blessed to be a part of Bob's life are his wife Shirley of Beresford, children Jodi Strand and Eric Strand (Toni Severson) all of Sioux Falls, grandson Jason Strand of Sioux Falls, granddaughter Maiya Strand of Garretson, Emma Grace expected to arrive in February 2014, sisters Mary (Jerold) Voegeli, Netta (Ron) Hustrulid, LuAnn (Ron) Swanson all of Beresford, brothers Glenn of Illinois and Keith of Centerville, sisters-in-law Gloria Winick, Plymouth MN, and Kay Strand, Beresford, his mother-in-law Elsie Van Driel of Beresford, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
