Robert Fillingsness, Sr. died Saturday, January 28th, 2012, at home on his 80th birthday surrounded by his family. He was born at home in 1932 on the family farm northwest of Beresford to parents Clarence and Ida (Andersen) Fillingsness. Following school at North Star, he farmed with his father. Robert married Edna Bauer May 13, 1953. Together they raised a family of six children. He was a life -long member of Skrefsrud Lutheran Church and was baptized in the Lutheran faith. Robert was active in church and served on various council positions. Farming was Robert's livelihood and passion, raising Black Angus cattle and ran a corn shelling business for many years. He had a special love for "Red" tractors, collecting old Farmalls in his later years. Robert was especially proud of his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed two trips to Norway visiting his paternal family home. He enjoyed hunting and was very active with the local gun club, winning many awards at trophy shoots. He was also on the township board and a 4-H leader. In later years he enjoyed the hobby of painting and left behind many paintings that will be treasured by his family and friends. Family was Robert's pride and joy. He delighted in spending time his children and grandchildren. Robert is survived by his wife, Edna (Bauer), six children, Charlotte (Geoff) White of Kanawha, IA, Dorothy (Bill) Yeager of Emporia, KS, Bob (Rhonda) of Beresford, SD, Sonja (Scott) Ledford of Columbus, KS, Connie (Dave) Dahl of Beresford, SD, and Janel (Scott) Soderborg of Beresford, SD. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as a sister Estelle Olsen of Sioux Falls, SD and many other family members. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ida, as well as a step-mother, Leona (Jessen) and great grandson. Family requests memorials be given to Skrefsrud Improvement or Cemetery fund, the Backpack Program in Beresford or the Lincoln County 4-H Program. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31 at Skrefsrud Lutheran Church, rural Beresford with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4PM to 8PM with family present from 6PM to 8PM and a prayer service at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
