Robert Bob Elroy Lucas, age 69, died December 18, 2006 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls due to complications from surgery. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, South Dakota. Bob was born May 13, 1937 in Brookings, South Dakota to Lynn and Florence (Michaelsen) Lucas. Bob joined the US Navy in May 1955 after graduating from White High School. Most of his service time was spent in Oak Harbor, Washington and Alaska. He married Betty (Eastbury) Clark on June 17, 1978 in Brookings, South Dakota. Bob spent most of his adult life in Washington, Oregon, & California. He worked with Betty in the newspaper industry for a number of years in Washington and California. They returned to South Dakota in March of 1993. Together they managed Bettys Place in Beresford. Bob and Betty enjoyed visiting their grandchildren, traveling, gardening and antique hunting. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Betty Lucas of Beresford, South Dakota; three very special daughters, Shauna Hollowell of Rocky Mt, North Carolina, Sharon (Larry) Skewis Olympia, Washington and Jeanelle Clark of Lucedale, Mississippi; one son, Ronald (Thresia) Clark of Los Angeles, California; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Richard (Ruth Ann) Lucas of White, South Dakota; three sisters, Elaine (Jim) Straw of Astoria, South Dakota, Linda (Jerry) Oines of Brookings, South Dakota, and Nancy (Dusty) Rhodes of Hobbs, New Mexico; one brother-in-law, David (Doris) Eastbury of Stanwood, Washington; many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one son, one brother and one sister.
