Robert Burney Ambur passed away peacefully on
February 9,
2016 at his home in Beresford, South Dakota at the age 88. Robert was born in Beresford, South Dakota on November 4th, 1927 to Albin and Grace Ambur.
The funeral will be on Saturday, February 13 at
2PM
at the Zion United Methodist Church in Beresford, SD. His memorial service will on Friday February 12 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford from 6-8PM with family present and a prayer service at 7PM.
He attended Burney Country School, Canton High School, and South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. Robert was a Corporal in the 82nd Airborne Infantry. He married Susan Smith on August 30, 1952 in Beresford and moved to the family farm north of Beresford. He was a lifetime farmer until the age of 79, raising livestock, corn and beans. His hobbies were farming and flying his radio operated airplanes. He shared a beloved life of 63 years with Susan. Family gatherings were always special and fun, and will be cherished. Those memories include times on the farm and games like croquet and riding go-carts.
Grateful to have shared his life is his wife, Susan; and their five children, Roberta Ambur (Jim Means) of Yankton and grandchildren Alison (Scott) Feddes along with two great-grandchildren Aidan and Asher; Jill Wiesner (Gary) of Sioux Falls and grandchild Brad (special friend Michelle); Lori Ambur of Boise, Idaho; Janet Ambur along with grandchildren Kyle (Lindsey) Fischer and great-grandchild Suttyn, Ambur (Tyler) Zmuda and great-grandchild Emma and Ryan Fischer (Sam Raymer) and great-grandchild Brayden all of Brookings; Gregg (Teresa) of River Falls, WI along with grandchildren Brittany and Nick of San Diego, Alix of New York and Zach of River Falls. Numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors, friends, and his Beresford Area Radio Flyers group also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gilbert, Bill, and Don; and sister, Eleanore.
Memorials may be directed to Beresford Zion United Methodist Church, donor of choice or chosen act of kindness.
