Richard H. "Dick" Sebern was born August 27, 1920 in Lanesburro, IA to parents William and Tilla (Wegner) Sebern. He died July 13, 2013 in at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 16 days. Dick graduated from high school in Glidden, IA in 1938. He served in the United States Army Air Corp from July 1940 to December 1945. He married Betty Brick in 1941. The couple moved back to Iowa upon Dick's discharge from the Army. They moved to the Spink, SD area in 1972 where Dick operated Sebern Construction until retiring in 1991, when the couple moved into Beresford. Betty passed away in June of 2012 and Dick continued to reside here until the present time. Dick attended Garryowen Church and St. Teresa Catholic Church after moving into town. He was a member of the Alsen American Legion and served as a Union County Commissioner for 8 years. Dick enjoyed reading, restoring old cars and was an avid Twins fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother James and a brother Charles in infancy. Survivors are his daughter Gay Erks, Sioux Falls; two sons, Mike Sebern and wife Rosie and Bill Sebern and wife Linda all of Beresford; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; a brother Ward Sebern and wife Betty of Manilla, IA; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford with burial to follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation with family present will be Monday at St. Teresa Catholic Church from 6PM to 8PM with a wake service at 7PM
