Funeral services for Richard will be 10AM Wednesday, June 6th at Immanuel Free Lutheran Church in rural Centerville. Visitation is Tuesday 2-8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 5-7PM and a prayer service at 7PM. The family encourages attendance in your favorite sport attire. Richard L. "Stubby" Olson died June 2, 2012 suddenly at his home in Centerville, SD at the age of 58. He was born July 5, 1953 in Viborg, SD to parents Jim and Jean (Kirkham) Olson. Richard was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Centerville. He graduated from Centerville High School. Richard worked for Verleys Well Drilling right out of high school for many years. He has been a locomotive engineer for LG Everist in Hawarden, IA for over 24 years. He took pride in his job and gave many train rides to many children and his nephews and nieces. Stubby enjoyed playing softball with the "Chubs" and spending time and roughhousing with his nephews and nieces and great-nephews and nieces. He rarely missed pinochle at the Desert Inn on Saturdays. He liked playing golf and giving rides on his golf cart. Stubby was a great fan of the NY Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. He leaves his parents, Jim and Jean Olson of Centerville; siblings, Jim (Rita) Olson of Centerville and their children Becca (Allen) Brown, Jesse Olson, Roxanne Olson and Rachel Olson; John (Teri) Olson of Sioux Falls and their children TJ Olson and Erin (Chris) Zielinski; Barb Ramos of Centerville and her children James (Amy) Ramos and Melissa (Ryan) Lefers; and Linda (Steve) Holmberg of Centerville and their children Brad Holmberg, Greg (Sara) Holmberg, Kevin Holmberg and Brett Holmberg; 10 great-nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Robert Olson, a special friend, Joni Andal and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one niece, Linda Kay Ramos.
