Richard Rich Lingberg, Sr., 82, of Sioux Falls, SD died Friday, June 18, 2010 at the Community Living Center at the Sioux Falls Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Rich Lingberg was born March 22, 1928 to E. Walter and Florence (Peterson) Lingberg in rural Clay County, South Dakota near Hub City. Rich was the youngest of four children. He attended Marshall Town and Dalesburg Grade Schools and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1946. He played baseball on both the American Legion and Hub City town teams. He entered the U.S. Army in 1951 and served at various bases during the Korean conflict throughout the United States. After his discharge, in 1953, he worked as a mechanic until he became Beresfords first city letter carrier in 1957 and faithfully served his patrons for 28 years. After retiring from the Postal Service he provided handy man services in the Beresford area for many years.
Amongst his many volunteer services, he most proudly served the community as a volunteer fireman for over 50 years. Most notably, he served as a volunteer on the Beresford Ambulance and Rescue Squads, the Beresford City Council, American Legion and as a Cub Scout Master for many years. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church since 1952 and a long-time member of the Msgr. Delahoyde Council of the Knights of Columbus.
In 1952, Rich married Corrine Scheuring of Beresford. Together they raised their family and enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards, crossword puzzles and games. They lived in their home in Beresford until 2007 when they moved to Sioux Falls.
Survivors include his wife Corrine of Sioux Falls, his two children Rick (Mary) and Teri (John) Olson, all of Sioux Falls. He has 5 grandchildren; Sarah (Torey) Koch and T.J. Olson of Sioux Falls, Christine Lingberg of Houston, Texas, Erin Olson and Heather Lingberg of St. Paul, Minnesota. Rich had one great-grandson Harper Koch of Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Lloyd, Douglas and Eleanor.
Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls, TV Mass of Sioux Falls Catholic Diocese or the Community Living Center at the Sioux Falls Veterans Administration Health Center.
Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at St. Teresa Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5PM to 7PM with a service at 7:00PM at the church.
