Reid Boetel was born January 28, 1948 in Hawarden, IA to parents Christian and Lois (Roberts) Boetel. He passed away on January 9, 2016 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 11 days.

Reid graduated from Alcester High School and Southern State College and then taught for a few years. He owned and operated Reid's Corner Café in Alcester for 11 years. He always enjoyed the people he served and his wonderful staff-all of whom he considered family. He later cooked in several area restaurants, nursing homes and the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls.

He was a member of the Alcester United Church of Christ. Among his hobbies and interests were woodworking, carpentry, and growing flowers. Reid's real joy in life was raising purebred Chow Chows, Dalmatians and Cocker Spaniels, as he truly loved his dogs. His most beloved dog was his black Chow Chow, Oso.

Reid is survived by his mother Lois Boetel, Alcester; his daughter Elena (Patrick) Sutton, Hodges, SC; his grandchildren, Sydney Sutton and Christian Hunter Sutton; a special aunt Leona Roberts and her family; and close family friend Millie Klopstad. He was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the United Church of Christ in Alcester.
