Anderson

Raymond Delmar Anderson was born September 19, 1933 to Harold and Ruby (Johnson) Anderson in Alcester, South Dakota, the oldest of four children. He died February 6, 2023 at Centerville Care and Rehab in Centerville, SD at the age of 89 years, four months and 17 days.
He attended North Star Grade School and Beresford High School. In 1956 he joined the US Army where he served for two years and received an honorable discharge. Raymond then farmed with his father and worked for Kelly Construction in Beresford.
Raymond married Janice Paulsen on June 30, 1962 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. One daughter, Kathleen, was born to them. Over the years Raymond continued to farm and feed cattle with his father, had a used car lot, drove truck for Ryken trucking and worked for Hybertson Construction. He retired after working for 10 years for Ampride Service in Beresford, serving as the "tire man". After retiring, he enjoyed working for S&P Construction and doing lawn work.
Raymond attended Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church in his early years and joined Scandia Lutheran where he was an active member serving on council, enjoying men's prayer group and fellowship coffee. He was a member of the American Legion.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 60 years, Janice; one daughter, Kathleen Uphoff of San Jose, CA; three grandsons, Anders Uphoff of San Jose, CA, Adrian Uphoff of Minneapolis, MN and Anton Uphoff of Reno, NV; sister, Marie (Don) Thompson of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Beverly (Bud) Lewison of Sioux Falls; five nephews, Calvin, Doug, Alan and Daryl Zweifel and Pat Anderson; four nieces, Carla Lawrenson, Julie Saugstad, Lori Lewison and Sharon Grove; and his aunt, Doloris Johnson. Raymond is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, step-brother, Harvey Olson and step-sister, Barbara Dreisen and his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Ernest and Jenette Paulsen; step-mother, Martha Anderson; brother, Don and sister-in-law, Carol Anderson; sister, Donna Zweifel and sister-in-law, Carol Paulsen.
Ray enjoyed his grandsons and the many adventures with them in California. He liked collecting and working with tractors, having and attending garage sales and auctions always watching for a "good deal".
Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Scandia Lutheran Church, 251 Broadway Street, Centerville, SD 57014 with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Scandia Church or Holland Cemetery, 45780 SD Hwy 19a, Centerville, SD 57014.
