Obituary

Randy Gene Tornberg of Beresford was born on June 25, 1970, the seventh child of a large loving family to Gordon and LaDell Tornberg. He lost his heroic battle with a brain tumor on Mar. 11, 2006 at age 35. He is survived by his four beautiful children, Brittny (age 12) Tanner (age 9) and twin girls Sadie and Josie (age 4) and the mother of his children, Shelly Tornberg of New Underwood. Many words describe who he was. Son, little brother, and then not-so-little-brother as his height surpassed all of his six siblings. Other important relationships in his life would further describe him as a husband, a brother-in-law, an uncle, a nephew, a cousin, a teammate, a BHS and SDSU graduate, a friend. Randy was a hard worker and a valued employee. While he was primarily an agronomist, at times he also was employed as an elevator manager, a farmer, and a road builder. But more than any other title, what really and truly defined him as what he was called by those who loved him mostDad. Randy was a loving father who cherished his relationship with his children above every other relationship in his life. If you want to remember Randy as he would want you to remember him, he would ask you to picture him playing Monopoly or dominoes with Brittny, fishing or having guy time with Tanner, or playing tea party or dress-up with Sadie and Josie. His two big shoulders were a perfect perch for those two little girls riding high above a big heart. Following the generous example of his big sister Connie, Randys final gift of love was sharing that same big heart as the gift of life through organ donation. Connie, was laid to rest just 18 months ago on Sept. 6, 2004. In addition to his children, those blessed with sharing his life include his parents Gordon and LaDell Tornberg, his three brothers, two surviving sisters, and in-laws. These include Mike (and Ann) Tornberg of Beresford; Steve (and Kit) Tornberg of Harrisburg; Bruce Tornberg of Beresford; Susie (and Gene) McTavish of Rochester, MN; Marlene (and Steve) Gannon of Harrisburg; and Paul Stonefield of Brookings. Survivors also include 17 aunts and uncles, 15 nieces and nephews, three great nieces, one great nephew, dozens of cousins, and hundreds of friends and co-workers from Sturgis, Arlington, Redwood Falls, MN, and Beresford. Somewhere on a different level, theres bound to be a card game going on right now between a big sister and her little brother. We suspect theres a lot of laughing and more than a little cheating going on. God bless you both, Sis and Little Bro. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
