Obituary

James Quinten Miller, 90, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. The funeral service will be Monday, October 22 at 10:00 a.m. at the Beresford Zion United Methodist Church. The family will be present for visitation at the Beresford Zion United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 21 from 5:00 to 8:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Quinten was born on August 4, 1922 to James M. and Hazel B. (Card) Miller in Hawarden, Iowa. He attended the Miller School and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1940. He was a life-long member of the Methodist Church. Quinten married his high school sweetheart and soul mate, Wanda Keehn, of Hawarden on February 19, 1944. They began their farming career renting land near Hawarden. In 1947, the couple bought a farm in the Beresford area. Quinten loved farming and feeding cattle and hogs. He shared this joy with youth as a 4-H leader for many years. Quinten was a talented wood-worker; a hobby he shared with his wife. Together they made beautiful pieces from oak and walnut for family and enjoyed taking their creations to craft fairs throughout the region. Family was Quinten's greatest love. His treasure was his wife, Wanda, of 68 years. He took immense pride and joy in his five children, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. His children and their families are: James and Sharon (Clay) Miller of Mandan, ND (Brian and Tonya Miller - Danielle and Alex Burkel, Clay, J.T. and Madison; Kevin and Melissa Miller - Owen; Nathan and Cassie Miller - McKenzie, Reilly and Avery); Dennis and Susan (James) Miller of Bloomington, IL (Dean and Maria Miller; Paul and Ivana Miller); Donald and Michelle (Neuhaus) of Owatonna, MN (Curtis and Jennie Miller - Annoura and John; Kyle Miller; Emily Miller); Julie and Wayne Gottsleben of Brandon, SD (Greg Gottsleben; Angie Gottsleben - Skya); and Lisa and Shelby Docken of Beresford, SD (Jeremy and Amber Docken - Kyzer; Ryan Docken; Eric Docken; and Alex Docken). Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Berry and Alice Marie (Charles) Kopp, all of Hawarden, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Sanford Hospice or Beresford Zion United Methodist Church.
