Phyllis Nelson Boom was born December 25, 1920 in rural Irene, South Dakota to parents Lawrence and Matilda (Mickelson) Nelson. She died July 30, 2013 at the Centerville Care Center at the age of 92 years, seven months and five days. She was raised and attended school in Centerville. Phyllis married Raymond Boom February 27, 1937 in Yankton. The couple raised their three children in Centerville where Phyllis worked. She was employed with the grocery store, bakery, did home cleaning and worked in the locker plant. Following Raymond's death in 1992, Phyllis lived in Vermillion and Fulda, MN before returning to Centerville. She was full of life and enjoyed staying busy, especially with cooking, baking and reading. Phyllis was very patriotic and a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary; she was involved with the Garden Club, very active in church in Centerville and also enjoyed to big band music. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her parents, husband, daughter Kathryn Angelillo, two brothers and nine sisters preceded her in death. Phyllis is survived by her son, Dick (Bev) Boom of Sioux Falls; daughter, Deb (Bob) Boomgaarden of Fulda, MN; sister, Betty (Eldon) Hasche of Sioux Falls; son-in-law, Raymond (Hillary) Angelillo of Fresno, CA; eight grandchildren, Nina Marra, Neil (Mary Ann) Angelillo, Marc Angelillo, Kristi (John) Hermann, Jana Hovden, Angela (Adam) Mochell, Marissa Boomgaarden and Joshua Boomgaarden; 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2PM Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Centerville United Church of Christ with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
