Services will be 2:00PM, Saturday, January 28 at First English Lutheran Church, Centerville with burial at Bluff View Cemetery, Vermillion. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 7PM to 8PM at First English Lutheran Church. Phillip D. Johnson was born October 31, 1937 in Vermillion, SD to parents Harry and Ethel (Jamison) Johnson. He died January 24, 2006 at his home in Centerville, SD at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 23 days. Phil graduated from Wakonda High School in 1956. He then served four years in the United States Navy. He married Judy Bechtold on December 10, 1966. In 1969 the couple moved to Centerville. Judy died in 1986 and Phil continued to live in Centerville. He later married Edith Hadley. Phil worked in the road construction most of his adult life, retiring in 2002. Phil was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Centerville and the Wakonda American Legion. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and keeping busy working on many things in his garage. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors include his 2 sons: Dan Johnson and wife Caryn of Sioux Falls and Randy Johnson of Yankton; daughter Kathy Johnson of Wakonda; 10 grandchildren; 2 brothers: Art Johnson and wife Ann of Vermillion and Virgil Johnson and wife Jean of Irene; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
