Paul "Smiley" Emil Lindgren was born June 18, 1931 in Hawarden, IA to parents Emil and Johanna (Jensen) Lindgren. He passed away in Sioux Falls, SD on November 25, 2015 at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 7 days.
Paul attended Edwards rural school and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1949. After graduation, he worked at different jobs around Hawarden. He entered the United States Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in Germany, French Morocco, and various places in the United States until he was honorably discharged in December of 1955. Paul returned home and farmed until 1970. He then worked for the Union County Highway Department until retiring in 1993. Paul was baptized at the age of 15 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hawarden. He was also a member of the Alcester VFW and the Hudson American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and took many fishing trips to Canada. Paul was an airplane enthusiast and liked to attend airshows in the area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Beverly Lindgren. His survivors include his three sisters, Patricia (Jim) Dunnam, Hawarden,IA, Peggy (Larry) Nilson, Hawarden, IA, and Pauline Popken, Elma, IA; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 1:30PM, Saturday, November 28 at First Baptist Church in Hawarden. Visitation will be Friday from 5PM to 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.
