Patrick Birgen, 55, of Beresford, SD died Oct. 10, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral Mass will be 10AM Tuesday, Oct. 15th at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford. Visitation will be 5-8PM Monday at Wass Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8PM with a time of sharing memories at 7PM. Patrick Edward Birgen was born October 2, 1958 in Arlington, VA. He died October 10, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 55 years and 8 days. As an infant Pat was adopted to Edward and Mardella (Scherer) Birgen. He was raised on the family farm between Alcester and Beresford. Pat received his education in Beresford, graduating from Beresford High School in 1976. After high school Pat worked on the family farm and also worked for a number of years at Quality Park in Beresford, however, he was truly a farmer all his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and time spent with his friends. Grateful for having shared in his life are his soul mate, Renee Goltz of Alcester; children, Victoria Goltz and Tom Fertig of Lincoln, NE, Ted Goltz and LeAnn Meek of Rapid City, and Tyler Goltz of Alcester; granddaughter, Rya; his sister, Pam Hein of Lake Andes; two nieces, Jessica Berke of Northwood, ND and Mary Collins of Sioux Falls; five great-nieces and nephews, Arwyn, Aslan, Alora, Maren and Teagen; and many cousins and friends. His parents preceded him in death.
