Patricia Alexia (Christopher) Lyle died at the age of 95 on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, South Dakota. She was born on November 27, 1925 in Yankton, South Dakota to parents John and Agnes (Healy) Christopher and was baptized and confirmed at St. Columba's Church in Mayfield. Pat was raised in the Mayfield area and graduated from Irene High School in 1943.

Pat attended Sacred Heart Hospital and Nursing School from 1943-1946 and graduated with her nursing degree. She then spent a short time in Ann Arbor, Michigan before moving back to South Dakota, where her career of nearly fifty years included employment at Sacred Heart Hospital, Akron Hospital, Bethesda Nursing Home, and Alcester Home Health. Her compassion and gentle-hearted nature helped her to excel not only in her nursing career, but also as a mother.

Pat married William (Bill) Lyle, Jr. on February 20, 1950. They made their home in the Garryowen/Spink area where Pat not only continued her nursing career but was also a dedicated farm wife and loving mother to twelve children. Bill died on September 28, 1979, at which point Pat served as both mother and dad to their children. Despite the difficulties of caring for the kids by herself, Pat was a resilient, kind, and patient mother.

In her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo, cheating at cards (which she learned from her mother, Agnes), and watching her children and grandchildren in their sporting activities. Pat was also a fan of the Miami Dolphins and was able to attend several of their games over the years. During her time living in Bethesda, Pat's quick wit and sense of humor brightened the days of the nurses and aides who took care of her and the residents she lived with. Her loved ones—both within her family and without—will always cherish the laughter and love Pat brought to the world.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, William Lyle, her son, Gregg Lyle, her grandson, Caleb Lyle, her great-grandson, Zachary Wiebers, her daughter-in-law, Nancy Lyle, her parents, and 7 siblings.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 22 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford, SD.  Rosary will be said at 6:45 and a prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM, all at the church.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM, Wednesday, December 23 at St. Teresa Catholic Church.   Masks are required and services will be livestreamed on Facebook by St. Teresa Catholic Church.  wassfuneralhome.com
