Patricia Knutson passed away May 6, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 16 days. Due to the COVID-19 related gathering restrictions, Patty's family will have a private burial now and will host a celebration of life service at a later date to properly celebrate her life with her family and friends.
Patricia Joan Knutson was born February 20, 1949 in Vermillion, SD to Palmer and Stella (Knudson) Knutson. She attended Wakonda School and graduated in 1967.
Patty was active in chorus, band and declam. She loved music and was a gifted pianist. She continued her education at U.S.D., graduating with a speech pathologist Masters Degree. She worked in the Black Hills region and Iowa School System. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage, could speak the language, and also knew some excellent recipes from Norway.
She married Dan Jorgenson and later divorced.
Patty was an avid reader, a shopper, and loved to travel. Trips to Norway, Russia, Romania and China, were her joy. During these years she became interested in the Russian Orthodox religion and spent 2 years at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Seminary in Crestwood, NY. Here she completed her Masters of Divinity.
She came back to South Dakota and cared for her parents at Frog Creek Road. When she moved to Sioux Falls, she delighted in caring for 2 little girls who she loved dearly. She moved to All Saints in 2019.
She leaves to mourn 22 first cousins; 3 aunts; several godchildren; dear friends, Gayle Slattery, Cindy Struckman-Johnson, and Joan Hefner; sisters-in-law, Penny Newcomb and Peggy Meyer; brother-in-law, David J. Jorgenson; extended family members; and many friends.
Thank you to her Comfort-Keepers, Kim, who took her for rides in the country and to the staff at Touchmark.
Blessed be her memory.
