Patricia Berg was born March 17, 1936 in Letcher, SD to Maynard "Red" and Violet (Hanson) Goodwin. Violet died very young. Red married June Vollenweider and they raised Patty with her brothers and sister in the Beresford area. Patty graduated from Beresford High School.

She married Rodney Berg March 26, 1955 at the Methodist Church in Beresford. The couple had two children, Lisa and Jerry. They lived in the Beresford and Alcester communities where Patty worked as bookkeeper for Great Plains Lumber in Beresford and as a secretary for Alcester Meats for many years. During her retirement years Patty enjoyed bartending at the Alcester Bar. Following Rod's death in August of 2010 Patty continued to live in Alcester. She died December 9, 2017 at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg at the age of 81 years.

She liked shopping, reading, doing crossword puzzles and coffee with friends. Patty enjoyed following the Atlanta Braves and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her parents, husband, daughter, Lisa Briggle and brother, Buzz Goodwin preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Jerry (Kathy) Berg of Viborg; son-in-law, Lee Briggle of Alcester;  five grandchildren, Nick (Laura) Sorlie of McCook Lake, SD, Jerrod (Nikki) Berg of Centerville, Toni (Aaron) Carlson, Heath (Tiffany) Sorlie of Alcester and Kristen (Jason) Hallauer of Centerville; four step-grandchildren, Amanda Peterson of Dell Rapids, Steven (Amy) Peterson of Viborg, Christopher (Tania) Peterson of Centerville and Brandi Peterson of Happy Valley, OR and her special friend, Veit Anders. Also surviving are her nine great-grandchildren, Olivia, Mariah, Alexsis, Zackary, Kaitlyn, Reese, Stella, Varrick and Ada; her step-great-grandchildren, Anthony, Cody, Alicia, Sadie, Mara, Oliver, Paxton, Kinley, Ryker and Kiya; two brothers, Rodney (Audrey) Goodwin of Mitchell, SD and Jim (Frances) Peterson of Mobridge and one sister, Marvis (Earl) DeBates of Menagha, MN.

Visitation for Patty will be 6-8PM Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester. Memorial services will be 11AM Wednesday, Dec. 13th at the Alcester United Church of Christ with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Alcester.
