Palmer Odell Hustrulid was born January 24, 1925 on the family farm, rural Beresford, SD to parents Bert and Ruth (Albin) Hustrulid. He died June 29, 2013 at the Bethesda Nursing Home at the age of 88 years, 5 months, and 5 days. Palmer attended Gothland rural school. He received his high school diploma from Beresford High School in 2000, as he was among 14 other Beresford servicemen honored as the Class of 2000 WW II. He served in the United States Army from May of 1945 until his honorable discharge in December of 1946. He returned home and married the "love of his life" Marilynn Miller. They raised their family on a farm three miles southeast of Beresford. Palmer farmed until his retirement in the late 1980's when the couple moved to town. Marilynn died in August of 2012, and Palmer continued to reside in Beresford until his death. Palmer was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Masonic Lodge. He and Marilynn liked going to Texas during the winter months. Palmer enjoyed fishing, bowling, dancing, golfing, playing cards, and watching his son's and grandson's baseball games. He is survived by two sons Ron (Netta) Hustrulid, Bob (Sharon) Hustrulid all of Beresford; three daughters LuAnn Kleinsasser of Beresford, Lynelle Hustrulid of Lake Forest, CA, and Sheryl Ek of McKinney, TX; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Kleinsasser (Jen Smith, fiancé), Lori (Jim) Stancer, Jay (Karla) Shellhammer, Kyle Shellhammer, Carly Ek, Andrea (Alan) Fischer, Lisa (Dave) Fortier, Heather (Brian) Ivarsen, Alyssa Hustrulid, and Preston Hustrulid; six great-grandchildren, Brendan and Dylan Stancer, Owen Fischer, Evan Fortier, Matilda Shellhammer, and Kaylee Ivarsen; one sister, Phyllis Lundberg, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Palmer was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilynn, five brothers, Oliver, Wayne, Vernon, Roger, and Lee, and two sisters Elaine Hedeen, and Helen Peterson. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford with burial to follow at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation with family present will be Tuesday from 6 pm to 8 pm at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
